A Prayer in the Wind

Statement

Many years have passed since the earthquake and tsunami in Fukushima.
As I continued visiting the affected areas, I encountered countless “lights of prayer.”
Unspoken pain, layers of loss, and days filled with chaos— Yet, even in such times, people never stopped praying.
Amidst landscapes imbued with a divine stillness, I followed the lingering traces of prayer, quietly capturing the invisible light and hope that remained.
These are the “shapes of hope,” expressions of a will to move toward rebirth.
And I came to realize that prayer is not confined to the disaster-stricken areas.
Even from faraway places, people joined their hands and offered their hearts.
Silent prayers reached across unseen distances with quiet certainty.
Prayer is a small light kindled in the heart.
It has the power to heal oneself, to care for others, and to resonate with the world. Light always begins in places unseen—I truly believe this.
May this work become a single ray of light, guiding many toward tomorrow.

福島の地震と津波から、長い年月が過ぎました。
被災地に通い続ける中で、私は幾度となく「祈りの光」に出会ってきました。
声にならない痛み、幾重にも重なる喪失、混沌とした日々—— そんな中でも、人々は祈ることをやめませんでした。
その祈りは、被災地の中だけでなく、 遠く離れた土地からも静かに、しかし確かに届いていました。
日本中から寄せられた祈りや願いが、見えない距離を越えて、 混沌の中に小さな光を灯していたのです。
神聖な静けさに包まれた風景のなかで、 私はそうした祈りの残像をたどりながら、 目には見えない希望の光をそっと写し取ってきました。
それは「希望のかたち」。
再生へと向かおうとする意志の記録です。
祈りは心に灯る小さな光です。
それは自らを癒し、他者を想い、世界に静かに響いていきます。
光はいつも、誰の目にも触れないところから始まる——私はそう信じています。
この作品が、明日へと続く道を照らす、ひと筋の光となりますように。

In the aftermath of the Fukushima earthquake and tsunami, I was drawn again and again to the affected landscapes. Amid the silence and devastation, I encountered countless quiet prayers—small lights kindled in the heart. These prayers were not limited to those nearby; they flowed in from across Japan, transcending distance and chaos.
Through my lens, I sought to capture these invisible traces of light—symbols of grief, resilience, and the will to begin again.
Prayer, I believe, is where light begins.
May these photographs offer a quiet path toward healing, and a shared hope for tomorrow.

福島の地震と津波の後、私は何度も被災地を訪れました。
静寂と荒廃の中で出会ったのは、無数の「祈りの光」——心に灯る小さな光でした。
それは被災地だけでなく、日本中から静かに届けられた祈りでもありました。
私は、その見えない光の痕跡を、レンズを通して丁寧に写し取ってきました。
祈りは、光が始まる場所。
この作品が、癒しへの静かな道となり、明日への希望となりますように。
