October 3th – 23th 2014
Epson imaging gallery, at epSITE, in Tokyo
After the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, in which more than 20 thousand people’s lives were taken, I visited the stricken area. Since then I have been praying for them unconsciously. To be honest, I couldn’t do anything but pray. While I have visited there, my mind started to change. I decided to express my feelings in my photographs. Before that, I needed to look for what I should tell and how I show through the pictures.
I have been thinking about the prayer and the praying through a lens. And then I decided to express them in my photographs. ‘BORDER’ is a photographic project that is dedicated to those prayers. When people pray, sacred place spreads out over the prayer. As for me, I feel there is a sacred place even in daily life. People get stronger through the praying and it can give others energy.
My photographic project ‘BORDER’ shows our daily life with praying, the sacred places through the prayer and the both.
This exhibition is redesigned of my personal exhibition in which held at External linksLumiere Brothers Center for Photography in Moscow from July 15th to September 21st 2014. I printed my photographs on four kinds of paper; cotton paper, washi, plastered paper and so on and used a new printer, SC-PX5Vll, which was released from Epson in October.
As the new printer, Epson SC-PX5Vll has new UltraChromeK3 ink, which enables to express black color richer and deeper. When I printed, I used 4 kinds of inkjet paper; Bizan (Awagami factory), Isehishi Fusho (Isewashi), Fresco Type paper R (Tokuyama) and Velvet Fine Art Paper (Epson) to have the audience feel and realize how the printer affects the prints. I also categorized my theme ‘BORDER’ into to 4 keywords; Inspire, Prayer, Peace and Stone. It helps you to understand what I want to tell through my pictures easily. Please try them out below.

During the exhibition, I had a few gallery talk shows. I talked not only the points of having contracts with foreign galleries and what art markets in foreign countries want from us as artists but also the technics of taking pictures. Many people joined the talk show. Some said my advice was really useful.
